Does your hair dye fade quickly?
Beauty Salon Tips stylists/colorists use:
There are many causes to hair dye fading fairly quickly after getting hair done at a beauty salon. Some causes rely on the stylist and others the client. One common reason for fast-fading hair color is not allowing the dye to process for enough time, meaning the dye wasn’t left on the hair for long enough, and rinsing the color with a hot/warm water.
After a hair dye sits and processes, your hair stylist should emulsify the hair. Emulsification is the process of adding a small amount of water to the hair and massaging the hair dye and the hair together (in the rinse bowl). This process should look like a lather, makes sure the hair absorbed as much or the color as possible, and should take around 5 minutes.
Beauty Salon Tips to use at home:
Clients with longer hair tend to style their hair frequently using hot tools such as curling irons or straightening irons, especially after one gets their hair done. However, the problem with this is similar to washing and rinsing colored hair with hot water. Hard water also has an effect on hair color, hard water is water containing chemicals/elements. Hard water can leave built up matter on the hair, resulting in hair dye not completely able to saturate hair. One of the biggest tips to help fading hair color is to not rinse your hair with hot water. This is because the heat opens up the cuticle and allows the dye to escape during the shampoo process.
Reminding your clients to not shampoo their hair for at least twenty-four hours after their dye service can help with upkeep and prolong the color in the hair. Even the sun can fade hair dye. The sun can have the same effect on our hair that it has on our skin. Colorists recommend using a heat protection spray, like sunscreen for your hair.
